Cliffy B Disses Metal Gear Solid?

Jun. 27 1:39 AM by Dylan Duarte

In a recent interview with IGN, Cliffy B had something to say about Metal Gear Solid. Hit the jump to read it.

"Metal Gear Solid is our example of the game we're not doing. Passive entertainment is on its way out."

He's obviously referring to Metal Gear Solid's infamous long cutscenes, but calling it "passive" entertainment is a little exaggerated, no? I'm a fan of Gears of War and I'm fairly excited about the upcoming sequel, but bashing one of the most beloved franchises in gaming is not a cool move.

whoa whoa whoa. i rspect belinzski and everything. but no one should ever disrespect the mgs series.

Gear's single player was practically passive entertainment on it's own. You fight from one scripted scene to the next scripted scene, that plays out the exact same every time, and feels like it'd play out the same regardless of whether or not you were playing.

You can practically sit back and watch Gears of War play itself.

I liked GOW, but it was way too scripted for my tastes. What's the difference between heavily scripted story sequences, and heavily scripted gameplay sequences?

He wants to be called by his real name now Cliff Bleszinski and not "Cliffy B".

cliff man , wth- he anyways is "Borrowing", some stuff from mgs to gow2, like picking up ur enemy using him as a shield, he said he took the cover system from uncharted!

don't bash MGS, just cause it is bigger than GOW
