Metal Gear Solid 5 To Be a Prequel?

Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

We learned a while back that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots won't be the last game in the Metal Gear franchise. Now it looks like the next installment could be a prequel, similar to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Hit the jump for details.

When discussing Metal Gear Solid with Guns of the Patriots producer Ryan Payton, Payton was quoted as saying that there is "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned." He then went on to again clarify that there will be more games in the franchise.

As a big fan of Snake Eater, I'm excited at this prospect. It's also a way to keep Solid Snake a part of the story without having him directly involved.

I think it would be best for them to fill in the time between mgs2 and mgs4 from Raiden's point of view.

Raiden's point of view is a great idea, they need to do that. what could really be good, and would be totally unexpected would be from the point of view of The Boss. you could start out in WW2 with the Cobra unit, and end with the events leading up to MGS3.

I remember Kojima mentioning something years ago about Raiden having his own branch off game, but nothing ever came of it.

I guess Kojima was too busy working on MGS3 to be bothered with it at the time.

As far as a MGS prequel is concerned, though I'd like Kojima to make one, but I'd like more for him to take a break from MGS. I think he needs it. That way he doesn't burn out of the series which has taken up so much of his life in the last decade.

I'd really like to see a Zone of the Enders 3.

Granted, I've never played ZOE 2, but I do own the original which IMO is a good game despite the claim that it only sold because of the MGS2 demo.

On that note, does anyone remember hearing about video rental stores that rented out the MGS2 demo on it's own at the time? Talk about ripping people off. I realize that people were desperate to play it, but the demo isn't long enough to warrant renting.
