UH OH! Metal Gear Solid 4 Framerate in Flux

Jan. 8 10:12 AM by Ben Karl

This year's Consumer Electronics Show saw it's fair share of controversy. First, Microsoft was made to look like the village idiot after Warner Bros. practically killed the HD DVD format. Now Metal Gear Solid 4's demonstration has revealed that the game will cut it's framerate in half during scenes of intense action. The news from PunchJump states:

"When the on-screen visuals held less action and focused on nearby buildings the action locked at 60 frames per second. However, when bullet fire, grenades, smoke, and debris filtered the screen, the action fell to 30 frames per second... The frame rate flux was barely noticable, however, at a higher frame rate, textures held much sharper detail."

They also stated that non-playable, cinematic cut-scenes will run at the standard 60 fps. This drop in framerate may berate the PS3's capabilities, but I'd rather have a drop in framerate then lag during the most critical parts of the game.

Well I have seen games with 30fps and they don't look bad, so I'm sure this won't hurt the game in any way.

True, but a high framerate IS important. Call of Duty 4's visuals look more impressive and they run at 60FPS. They still have quite a bit if time to fix this.

I don't think this wiil be in the final version. I mean its MGS4 for crying out loud.

wow I didn't even know this page existed...

Yay LMG and Viva two of my fav readers. I remember you two from games.net!

Sounds weak i am sure this will be fixed becuase mgs is all about the cutscreens so i've heard.

MGS series sucked to me anyway...I like SplinterCell better

1. Splinter Cell sucked ass after the 2nd one

2. This is probably the reason why they delayed it... to fix those problems

3. Splinter Cell Sucked ass after the 2nd one.
